PostPosted: Thu Oct 13, 2016 11:46 am    Post subject: Elitism Has Its Place.... M+ Thoughts

Good afternoon Pandas! I was doing some thinking today. I've never been one to think that elitist jerks were the cool kids. There was a certain cool about them, I'll give them that. They did well in content, they had the cool gear, they finished things super fast. And some of that attitude is earned. They bust their ass to meet those goals. But when is it too much and when is it toxic?

There is nothing better than striving and meeting your goals. Accomplishing something new and better than you did before is what drives a lot of people. I work hard to gear my toons and keep them in line with my goals of mythic raiding. When I down a mythic boss, it feels good every single time. I analyze my logs, I look at damage, procs, rotation, and then I talk to other people of the same class. I respect my peers. There are a lot of people far better than me and I aim to be even close to them. To me, this is the good side of that drive. The constructive attitude and determination that makes things happen. After all, this is a video game and we control how well we do in it. I can't imagine it being ok to run into a goomba on Mario every time with the expectation of completing the level.

Even in everything that goes on at the beginning of an expansion, there is still something that happens in some players that turns their drive into toxicity. I should preface this part with meeting expectations or exceeding expectations is not elitist. In fact, I look for players that want to be better and work at that everyday. I look for raiders that make improvements, even in one area, every single time we pull a boss. This isn't elitist. This is progression. But on the other hand, I have noticed (and I, myself have seen myself take part in this) a division among players to achieve our goals. That toxic mentality of who is better than who. Hell, we all know who is better than who. I can't tell you how awful I feel for a new hunter to whoop my ass on the meters every single pull. There is no shame in completing something less than your desired goals if you complete it. Mythic Keystones are the prime example. Sure it's nice to skip multiple levels and to get multiple chests in one run. It saves time! The end result is still the same. If you complete every key in the 1 chest alloted time, you completed it. And you know what? Those lower stones are going to give you experience to keep going and pushing higher. They are designed to allow you to grow with them. Who cares that you didn't skip a level. Man, I would do anything to not have to do rank 7! And every single chest you open is a chance for a legendary. Every single person you take with you has that chance. They all get the chance for loot.

I guess what I am trying to get at is there is no perfect set of people. The Mythic Keystones change every week. Dungeons are harder than others. Modifiers for the dungeons are harder than others. Some weeks a warrior tank is the perfect tank. Other weeks, the warrior is last on your list. Some weeks you want aoe dps, some weeks you need strong single target. Unless you are capable of changing specs all the time, your group will change, and that is ok. It should change. Last night we had tons of people linking keys that they wanted to get done. Machdos is obviously the most vocal, but he's a great example. He gets on and spams guild making it happen. Don't be shy. If you have a key and maybe you aren't the best ever, just ask. If you are the best of the best, don't turn that level 2 away. It's gear and legendary chances for all. Stop putting people in groups that shouldn't exist for these.

Now, I know some of you are like, "But Atri, if I want to do a 9 (or 10+), I need strong players!" You are right. If you want to do higher keys, you need people ready for them. Just remember one thing, we all had to do the lower ones to get to the higher ones. We all tried and failed miserably at any level. Go out there and do what Pandamonium does best.... be a team. Last night I went with a tank that hadn't even done a single mythic plus this expansion. What?! Is that possible?! Tanks are so high in demand! Last night Kookykraving took some people into one and got his legendary! And the rest of you, if you want to do higher keys, you need but to ask for help. This can be on your gearing, rotation, pull advice, heal advice, whatever. Seek your guild. We are all a team. We are all here to help one another. I don't know about you guys, but I'm down to do any low level key I can.
